Statement from tertiary education providers in the Republic of Ireland

Posted on: 26 Mar 2020

This is a cohesive statement from tertiary education providers in the Republic of Ireland and follows from the speech of An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar TD, post the cabinet statement on Tuesday, 24 March 2020.  We are guided by the primacy of the requirement to protect lives through following the advices provided by our health authorities.  Our institutions are observing the injunction to respect physical distancing and are facilitating students and staff to work from home unless attendance at the workplace is absolutely essential.  Our staff are working assiduously to reassure and support students, to deliver online, and to adapt, where necessary, the modes of assessment.  The commitment of our providers is to maintain a continuity of service whilst observing the Taoiseach’s call that our learning communities should be allowed work remotely wherever possible.  We are fortunate to have a diverse education landscape and institutional leaders will adhere to these principles as best protects their members and ensures ongoing service through the course of this global public health pandemic.
