THEA welcomes Ministers' announcement of funding for additional undergraduate places

Posted on: 16 Dec 2019

Statement from Dr Joseph Ryan, CEO, Technological Higher Education Association (THEA)

We warmly welcome the announcement today, from Ministers Joe McHugh TD and Mary Mitchell O’Connor TD, of funding for almost 1,800 new undergraduate places across the Institutes of Technology and TU Dublin.

This funding, provided under Pillar 2 of the Human Capital Initiative, increases capacity significantly across the institutions, providing for almost 1,800 additional undergraduate students across 94 new courses in the areas of environmental sciences, ICT and engineering. This will make a significant and welcome contribution to economic activity across the country.

The opening of the call for proposals under Pillar 3 of the HCI is particularly significant and we look forward to engaging with our institutions on this.
