Supporting Black And Brown Women On Professional Placement

This project aims to directly support and improve the experience of black and brown women on the Professional Social Care Practice programme in SETU Carlow.

This project aims to directly support and improve the experience of black and brown women on the Professional Social Care Practice programme in SETU Carlow. It will support their experiences on mandatory work placement.

The intersection of race and gender need to be specifically addressed within the social care sector, which relies predominantly on women and, increasingly, women of African/Asian and South American descent to support the care sector in Ireland.

The key outcomes from this project will include:

  • A space for Black and Brown women to feel safe to discuss race and care roles;
  • An opportunity for Black and Brown women to identify their needs on professional placement practice; and
  • A written document outlining the needs to be incorporated in placement documentation and modules that support placement preparation
