The Institutes of Technology engage in regionally, nationally and internationally significant research in a wide range of areas, with particular recognition of their ability to deliver industry relevant and applied research. RDI capability in the Institutes has grown substantially in recent years, with much of the work concentrated in the development of specialist research centres and initiatives. There are now 46 active research centres or initiatives focused on particular areas of expertise. This has facilitated the growth of clusters of research active staff, post doctoral researchers and postgraduate students at masters and PhD level within and across Institutes. Institute principal investigators and academic researchers are now key collaborators in networks at national, EU and international level. The vast majority of our specialist research centres align with the Science Without Borders Priority Areas as mapped in the diagram shown below.
