IADT My Patient Space

Collaborative Research at IADT – My Patient Space

Ron Hamilton, Lecturer in Visual Communications, Design and Typography in Dun Laoghaire IADT, has led a number of successful research projects through the Enterprise Ireland Innovation Voucher scheme.

Ron was approached by Una Kearns, Founder and CEO of e-health start-up “My Patient Space” to develop a digital animation film which would assist her patients with their rehabilitation after hip and knee surgeries. Through Ron’s involvement with “My Patient Space” they developed a revolutionary, hospital based, customizable, patient app.  The aim of the app is to enable health care providers to engage with their patients using next generation mobile technology.

The team included IADT graduates Rachel Copley McQuillan and Stina Sandström, collectively known as “Bureau Bonanza”. The brief involved the development of a visual language treatment that could be used across multiple platforms.  The Team also developed a series of “personas” to reflect the apps demographics, from which 1 was chosen.  15 animations were then built around the persona depicting pre and post-surgery exercises for the knee and hip.  The animations were developed with input from medical professionals, physios etc. to ensure correct form.
