Technological Higher Education Association (THEA) congratulates DELTA awardees
The Institutes of Technology were strongly represented at the inaugural DELTA Awards on Wednesday 21 March, winning 8 out of the 11 project awards, and making up 5 out of the 7 awardees. Dundalk Institute of Technology, Cork Institute of Technology, Galway Mayo Institute of Technology, Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art Design and Technology each won awards, with DIT picking up three awards on the night.
The DELTA awards, presented by Mary Mitchell O’Connor, T.D., Minister for Higher Education, recognize projects that demonstrate outstanding commitment to enriching teaching and learning in their disciplines and preparing graduates for the working world. Organised by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education they are particularly popular as they focus on excellence with a discipline focus; DELTA = Disciplinary Excellence in Learning, Teaching and Assessment. The DELTA Awards form an integral part of the overall National Learning Impact Awards designed to enhance, showcase, and strengthen teaching excellence in higher education by recognizing the value of teaching at a national level.
Speaking after the event, Dr Joseph Ryan, CEO Technological Higher Education Association (THEA) said: “The success of the technological higher education sector says much about the innovation and commitment to excellent and discipline-informed teaching that is a significant strength for us. I warmly congratulate all who engaged with this and acknowledge the achievement of so many of our institutions in this area. Our sector is particularly strong in this arena and the realization of national recognition demonstrates the impact that our sector is having on pedagogical innovation.”
