Petrina Comerford, President of MTU Kerry Campus Students’ Union

My name is Petrina Comerford, I am the current President of Munster Technology University (MTU) Kerry Students’ Union. Having previously held the positions as President and Vice President of Welfare for the Institute of Technology (ITT) Students’ Union.

In my role I take pride in and thrive on communications and engagement with all students, in particular in the challenging year we have had with Covid. Alongside the negotiations and detailed discussions involved with the formation of Munster Technology University. Which included numerous working groups, policy development, International panels and town halls ensuring the student voice is heard in each of these forums.

I progressed to these positions after achieving my degree in Social Care, having returned to education as a mature student, alongside family commitments. I have found that life is full of challenges, I find that I am willing to learn and was lucky enough to find an environment which encouraged me to develop to what I am today, I have learned to adapt and learn from challenging situations. As a result of my background my approach is very person centred, I bring a high level of commitment to my work.

There may be dumps and turns in the road but if you have the strength and courage to navigate through these challenges you can achieve what you set out to do, embrace your differences as these are the gifts that give you your strength and courage.
