LIT on-campus companies assisting with the pandemic response

A range of SMEs and micro-enterprises located in the network of enterprise incubation centres across three of LIT’s campuses have been actively contributing to the pandemic response. This includes Thomondgate Whiskey, based in the Hartnett Enterprise Acceleration Centre on the LIT Moylish campus, who are ready to supply a sanitising product created using their whiskey. At Questum, LIT Clonmel, materials produced by A&C Chemicals will be used in some of the first vaccine trials. They are also making free hand sanitiser. Tom Brennan, Entrepreneur in Residence at Questum, is on the South East Senior Covid Crisis Team.

Thomondgate Whiskey was established as company after participating in New Frontiers at LIT. New Frontiers is the national entrepreneurship development programme, operated in partnership by the institutes of technology and Enterprise Ireland. Nearby, at the Limerick Enterprise Development Partnership Park, Last Minute Minders are supporting childcare for frontline staff.

At Questum in LIT Clonmel, materials produced by A&C Chemicals will be used in some of the first vaccine trials. They are also making free hand sanitiser. Tom Brennan, Entrepreneur in Residence at Questum, is on the South East Senior Covid Crisis Team, and is planning a Covid clinical trial application for submission to a national rapid response research funding call. Elsewhere in Questum, Health & Fitness Ireland are working with the HSE to develop programs supporting Mental Health and Wellbeing. Advanced Plasma Tech are working on two projects used for delivery of materials and as a fabrication and assembly station for prototype plasma units. They are working directly in the supply chain of ventilators and are also developing a sterilisation project with Queen’s University Belfast.
