LIT engineers in collaboration with UL for injection mould connectors
LIT engineers have been involved in a collaboration project earlier this month with UL, to provide injection mould connectors for filters and ventilation tubing at University Hospital Limerick.
Injection moulding is a manufacturing process for producing parts in large volume. It is most typically used in mass-production processes where the same part is being created many times in succession.
The project consisted of the Computer Numerical Control (CNC) manufacture of four mould assemblies in LIT, with the injection moulding of the connectors being carried by UL.
150 connectors were manufactured for use in the Intensive Care Unit of University Hospital Limerick using this mould, the remaining three mould assemblies were completed this morning.
This work from the Engineering Department, including John Walsh, Ciaran O Loughlin & Mark Currie, will help to ensure adequate filtration and ventilation facilities at UHL at this time.
