IT Sligo volunteers producing 250 face visors each day

A team of 26 volunteers from IT Sligo have responded to a national call to protect HSE front-line workers in the fight against Covid-19. The project team is led by the Head of Engineering, Una Parsons in conjunction with the Head of Research and Head of Science. The team consists of a mixture of staff, undergraduates, and current and former research postgraduates. Around 250 visors a day are being produced. 80 of these are distributed to the main-stream HSE, with the remainder being distributed to local Nursing homes, Garda Stations, GP Practices, Vets, Pharmacies, local Ambulance Services and Local Authorities. The institute has recently launched an appeal for local businesses to help establish a supply chain of the materials and components needed to manufacture the visors.
