Fiona Kelly, Schools Engagement and RPL Officer, LYIT

Fiona Kelly, is a busy mum and professional support staff member at LYIT. Having studied Marketing at undergraduate and postgraduate level, Fiona has seen first-hand this year, the importance of being resilient. As Schools Engagement Officer her role has changed significantly since March 2020 and also, as Mum to two children, Ben (17) and Rachel (11) she is balancing home-schooling while working from home in a busy and fast-paced role.

"I think it is fantastic that we are recognising resilience during International Women's Day 2021. This year, working in Higher Education has been particularly challenging, our roles have changed significantly, we are now firmly immersed in virtual working while balancing family commitments - which has been so challenging. I am surrounded by amazing women in my life, my Mum is an Oncology Nurse at Letterkenny University Hospital and I take my lead from my mother - a truly amazing woman. I would like to think that my hard-work, determination and resilient spirit comes from her. She is my inspiration and I always work hard, following her inspirational lead."

Fiona continues to develop her skills and experiences working in higher education. She works endlessly to promote gender equality and is chairperson of the communications working group of LYIT’s Athena Swan self-assessment team. Fiona is currently participating in Aurora’s Women in Leadership programme through advanced HE.

"Today, I would like to celebrate all the amazing women in our lives. This year has shown us that we are strong, that we can do anything that we put our minds to and I want to acknowledge all of my colleagues that have worked extremely hard over the last year. I have no doubt that we will come through stronger and more resilient."
