Dundalk Institute of Technology: ECME COVID-19 Response Mini Projects

Two DKIT Research Centres are partners in the Eastern Corridor for Medical Engineering, a cross-border centre funding by the European Union Interreg VA programme. ECME recently launched a rapid-response funding call related to Covid-19. Grant awards of up to €30,000 will be made to enterprises for projects which support the objectives of ECME’s Covid-19 response.

The Eastern Corridor for Medical Engineering (ECME) is a cross-border centre funded by the European Union’s Interreg VA Programme which is managed by the special EU programmes body (SEUPB). Its objective is to “To create a cross-border centre of research excellence within the field of cardiovascular medicine in particular focusing on medical grade wearables and associated remote monitoring systems”. The Regulated Software Research Centre and Netwell CASALA Advanced Research Centre at DKIT are partners in ECME. ECME recently launched a rapid-response funding call related to Covid-19. Grant awards of up to €30,000 will be made to enterprises for projects which support the objectives of ECME’s Covid-19 response. Challenge areas to be addressed by the call are:

  • Development of Machine Learning algorithms that can assist in COVID-19 modelling.
  • Use of clinical datasets to enhance decision making and improve patient care pathways with reference to COVID-19.
  • The design and manufacture of PPE equipment for use by front line staff in the healthcare system dealing with COVID-19 patients.
  • The development of rapid diagnostic tests for COVID-19.
  • Development of technologies aligned with the national and international requirement for additional ventilator equipment.

The closing date for the call was 24th April, and successful applicants will be informed by the 7th May.
